April Newsletter is out! Come pick up your copy at the school today and give a big shoutout to our students of the month! Havyn Gomez is an Empathetic Collaborator. She watches out for all her crewmates and makes sure they are safe. Havyn is the first person to check on someone when they get hurt. She will even stay with her crewmate until they are feeling better. Nicholas Mondragon is a Motivated Visionary. Nick serves as the captain of the Destination Imagination team. His leadership skills have grown. He makes sure that everyone is getting along and that work is still getting done. His motivation is contagious within his team. Kevyn Aragon is a Confident Critical Thinker. She has completed her CNA coursework and plans to take her board exam to become fully certified. She has also completed her internship at Dr. Sowards’ office and excelled in her College English coursework. “Rylan Trant is off to a strong start this baseball season leading Colorado 1A baseball in batting average and is in the top 5 for slugging, triples, and on-base percentage. From the mound he is in the top 15 for strikeouts in the state. Not only has he stood out on the field, he is a great team leader and excels in the classroom,” Coach Teddy Klinger said. Rylan also played varsity basketball and football this year.

March recap 8th Graders and their families visited Fort Lewis College as part of the counselors’ college tour series Mr. Mondragon works with his 1st graders using the Expeditionary Learning Modules during Skills Block. Elementary Destination Imagination team shows off their costumes at the Pueblo DI Regional Competition. 8th Grade students visted the Monte Vista Fish Hatchery as part of their career exploration. Other career exploration activities for elementary and middle school have included the Fort Garland Museum, ASU Geology Tour, and Creede Mining Museum. Field Experiences CNA Clinicals 3 high school students, Kevyn Aragon, Nakyla Navares, and Luz Elena Parra Ramirez students eagerly completed their clinical rotations, marking a significant milestone in their healthcare education journey. With determination and dedication, they navigated through various healthcare settings, applying their theoretical knowledge to real-life situations under the supervision of Stephanie Kreps. Throughout their clinical experience, they demonstrated compassion, professionalism, and a commitment to providing quality patient care. Destination Imagination Champions Under coach Abby Rendon's guidance, The Amigos team placed 3rd in Destination Imagination regionals, securing their spot in the state finals. Their project, a pirate-themed trebuchet, impressed judges and competitors alike. With creativity and teamwork, they're now set to tackle the state competition with renewed determination. The winning team members included Jose Taylor, Mateo Pacheco, Nicholas Mondragon, Ernesto Quintana-Acosta, and Hagen Bradley. Las Chicas (Coach: Abby Rendon, Team Members: Jaylah Ruybal, Juliana Rendon, and Sophia Rendon) placed fourth and won the Spirit of DI award for their performance during the Instant Challenge. The Wonder Toads (Coach: Angie Mestas, Team Members: Rayden Casillas, CJ Pacheco, Kaitlynn Hudson, Addie Herrera, and Adele Rendon) also placed 4th place. Weight Training PE teacher and coach, Joe Guenther, led his weight lifting students from the classroom to the real-world setting of SLV Sports and Wellness. With a passion for fitness and education, Guenther empowered his students to apply their knowledge practically by crafting personalized workout routines for real-world clients. This immersive learning experience not only enriched the students' understanding of fitness training but also inspired them to pursue careers in the dynamic field of personal training and coaching.
