The Rabbit The School Resource Officer Newsletter North Conejos, Sanford, and South Conejos Schools Sgt. R.L. Noga, SRO Message Corner Have you noticed lately that the days are longer, weather is warning up, and the school year is almost over? Just because school is almost out, don’t lose sight of what needs to be accomplished. Press on and finish strong. I want to also take this time to talk about the truancy issues that we have in all of our school districts. I am not exactly sure why there is a very huge problem with kids not going to school. I have asked all our schools to gather statistics on just how big the problem is. The couple that I have gotten already, the number is astonishing. Just an example, about 25% of 10th graders in one of the schools are considered truant. When students have missed a certain number of days, steps are taken to remedy the issue. If the issue persists, it could lead to court appearances. We want to stop it before it ever has to get that far. Attending school is important for our youth to succeed. I look at this issue to see how we can help the student and family attend school. Please help, and send them to school. DUI Drama sends message...Make good choices!! As proms get closer, we need to have conversations about making good choices. I recently went and helped Monte Vista HS with a DUI drama. I have helped Melissa many years with this by speaking to the students. I lost two friends during my junior year prom in 1987 in a car crash. Needless to say, this time of year is always hard and brings back those memories of what it was like to lose them. As you get dressed up, wash the car, and take many photos, enjoy your prom but please attend your after proms. But most of all, MAKE GOOD CHOICES. Decisions that end in tragedy can never be taken back. Reading my newsletter may get you lunch on me! Bailey Armstrong from North Conejos, and Raelee Atencio and Alejandro Trujillo from Sanford answered my riddle correctly last month. The thing that began and ended with a T and had T in it was a teapot. Thanks for reading my newsletter and playing along. Another chance this month!!
Art and messages around the schools Talent on display. I just want to open that art and eat what is inside What makes our schools safe? Lots of things do We as a community, along with our staff and student body, all play a vital role in keeping our schools safe. Propped open doors pose a big threat to the schools. That is an easy way for an intruder to gain access. We can never assume that it is okay for even having it propped for just “a minute”. We must pay attention to who is on our campus. If someone is just walking around not conducting any type of business or they have no business at all being there, they need to be asked. If someone is in the building that we do not recognize, they need to be challenged and taken to the front office. When we have control of who enters the buildings through the main entry only, that gives us a way to be able to vet those who have business at the school. If other doors are utilized for entry, that poses a great risk for the safety within our buildings. Also if someone is heard posing a threat to one of our schools, or posts are being made on social media, then we all need to say something. Not tomorrow, not next week, but RIGHT NOW. When we can catch this leakage early, a tragedy can be averted. It is up to all of us to make sure this happens Thank you for helping in making our schools a safe environment for our kids to learn. E Quote Corner "The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you." ~ B.B. King Thanks for taking the time to read my newsletter. If you see me or Dep. Lujan, tell us the answer: What was the first consolidated school in that San Luis Valley?

The Trojan Way: April 2025 Edition
9 months ago, Victoria Lopez
INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP TEAM The Trojan Way April 2025 c&u., Clo""°°"' Co...,. 8, 'i/o m...for Communication : Am I communicating with students in a way that is empowering? Your words and nonverbal messages can empower students in the classroom. Nonverbal signals are eye contact, facial expressions and/or hand gestures that communicate a specific meaning to students. Because they are visual instead of (or in addition to) auditory, nonverbal signals help students understand what is being conveyed through multiple senses. They communicate directions or the need for permission, a question, or a connection or common understanding. Nonverbal signals empower students to communicate with the teacher actively and respectfully during class, and promote eye contact and attention. They promote a quieter, more efficient and focused classroom; they allow for more discretion and dignity in meeting the needs of students; and they allow the teacher to redirect individual students or the class without interrupting the flow of work. SIPPS TIPS FOR READING Testing EOV SIPPS March 31- April 3 Testing is important to know if students are learning the required interventions for their designed program. First, if students scores show that they are increasing then the program designed for them are working. If students scores show little to no improvement then the students program needs to be redesigned, or other avenues need to be addressed. This is why interventionists are constantly progress monitoring, and making the adjustments necessary for students success. Students will show what they know on their EOY! -Veronica Velasquez- Testing Season Testing Season is around the corner. We want our students to feel a sense of pride & show all that they know, so we encourage them each and every day. However, as educators we also need words of encouragement at this time. You've Got This! State testing can be stressful, but rerriember-you've already done the hard work. You've taught, guided, and inspired your students every step of the way. Your Impact is Bigger than a Test This test doesn't define your students, and it certainly doesn't define you. The knowledge, confidence, and perseverance you've instilled in them matter so much more. Trust Yourself You've prepared them well. Now, it's time to step back and believe in the foundation you've built. Their success is a reflection of your dedication. Take a Deep Breath These days can feel long, but your encouragement and calm presence make all the difference. Keep shining, and remember-you are making a lasting impact! Thank you for all you do! You are appreciated more than words can say. -Kim Romero

A group of eager Antonito High School students gathered on Thursday afternoon, just before spring break, on the banks of the Conejos River. The excitement in the air was obvious, a mixture of pride and anticipation. For months, they had been part of the Trout in the Classroom (TIC) Project, raising trout from tiny eggs to lively fry in their classroom aquarium. Throughout the process, they learned about water resources, ecosystems, and the delicate balance that sustains life in the natural world. The project had been more than just a science experiment; it had become a journey of responsibility and discovery. Each student had taken turns ensuring the water temperature was just right, observing the growth of their trout, and carefully monitoring their development. They had witnessed firsthand the life cycle of the trout, from egg to fry, and in the process, learned to appreciate the fragility of the environment. Now, with their trout ready for the next stage in life, the students stood together, gazing at the clear, flowing river. It was time for the fry to take their place in the wild, where they would continue their journey in the Conejos River. With a sense of accomplishment and respect for the river, the students gently released their fry into the cool current. One by one, the fish darted away, slipping into the river’s embrace as they began their new life.
