Although Principal Appreciation Day fell on a weekend, May 1st, we couldn't let it pass without recognizing these incredible leaders. Our Principals go above and beyond each day to support our students, staff, and school community. We appreciate all that you do!

School Lunch Hero Day may have landed on the weekend (May 1st), but we're still celebrating our amazing cafeteria team! Thank you for the care, dedication, and positivity you bring to our students each day. We appreciate all that you do!

To celebrate their hard work in preparation for the Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) the third, fourth, and fifth graders earned a trip to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. Each Elementary Crew enjoyed visiting all the animal exhibits and habitats as the wintry weather held off until after our departure from Colorado Springs. Expeditions like these afford learning opportunities outside the classrooms and builds relationships with fellow Crew and Crew Leaders. Thank you to our chaperones that volunteered their time from work and home to join us to ensure a safe and fun trip for all.

Attention Trojan Families,
The third, fourth, and fifth graders on the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo trip are on the way back. We were so thankful for the break in the weather that allowed us to enjoy all the exhibits possible. We are currently in Walsenburg making our way back over the pass. We anticipate arrival back at school by 5pm. We will provide an update if necessary.
As of now, the Upper Elementary School, (Grades 3-5) Cheyenne Mountain Zoo Trip is still on schedule for a departure from the school at 6:30 am. Breakfast will be provided on the bus. Students will be given a sack lunch that they need to carry in a backpack along with their own water bottle. I encourage the students to dress appropriately to account for inclement weather.

Today, our 7th Grade went on a field trip to the Monte Vista Fish Hatchery. The Monte Vista Hatchery is a cold water facility that raises fingerlings and catchables of rainbow trout and splake. Many of the fish produced are to enhance angling opportunities, while others serve a critical role in native species recovery efforts. A big thank you to Monte Vista Hatchery for the educational oppportunity and for being such great guides!

Attention K-2 Families. We will be taking the K-2 Students to the Alamosa Recreation Center to roller skate and then have a picnic lunch at the Rio Grande Farm Park in Alamosa on 6 May 2026, 8:15 AM returning to the school by 12:30 PM. There is no additional cost and parents may join us at the center/park at their own expense. If you have questions, please reach out to my email jomontoya@southconejos.com

Saturday, April 25, 2026, two of our Antonito High School Juniors Dylan Gray and Octavian Martinez, participated in the 2026 National History Day Colorado state competition held at the University of Colorado Denver, Auraria Campus.
The NHDC is in 10 regions across the entire state. An estimated 15,000 Colorado students participate annually. There were 613 students registered for the contest with 381 projects at this year's State Contest. 102 teachers had students qualify for the State Contest. 81 schools sent regional winners.
This was the second time both Dylan and Octavian qualified to compete at the state level in the Senior Group Exhibit category. Although they did not win and move onto the National History Day, we are so proud of their hard work and dedication to immerse themselves into learning history.
We look forward to next year's contest and all the students that will represent Antonito High School at the 2027 National History Day Colorado Regional Contest.

Congratulations to our SCSD Educator of the Year, Zyra Guyon, and Support Staff of the Year, Nichole Archuleta! We are proud to honor their outstanding dedication and impact on our school community!

Yesterday, our Board Members and Superintendent surprised staff with a mobile ice cream bar, bringing plenty of smiles and a strong sense of appreciation. We are grateful for their continued support. It was a great way to wrap up a Monday! 🍨
